APS is offering two opportunities to get involved in key initiatives for the 2015-2016 school year and we need your help in identifying community representatives to serve on the CRCT Remediation Advisory Committee & School Turn-Around Strategy Committee.  Applications are due Friday, August 14th by 5:00 p.m.

Our district is committed to engaging a diverse group of community members, and as such, we hope that as concerned stakeholders you will consider submitting an application and spreading the word in your local school communities.  If you have not had the opportunity to serve on an APS committee, please consider one of the following:

CRCT Remediation Advisory Committee

  • Georgia State University evaluated the breadth and depth of students impacted by erasure irregularities on the 2009 CRCT.
  • APS is moving forward with a comprehensive academic support plan to ensure that every impacted student receives appropriate support for academic success.

Purpose:     Provide guidance & support with the implementation of the support plan.

Members:  10 people (comprised of 9 clusters + 1 charter)

School Turn-Around Strategy Committee

  • APS is committed to undertaking an aggressive, targeted strategy to improve schools that have been identified eligible or at-risk for state takeover by the proposed Opportunity School District (OSD).
  • APS is in the process of analyzing data, reviewing the challenges faced by each school and community, and assessing the trends in student performance.  The strategy is early in its developmental stages and is informed by case studies of turnaround efforts across the country.
  • To support this work, a collaborative of Atlanta based education funders has come together to engage a national strategy consulting firm with a local presence to work directly with APS in developing its OSD strategy (more details are forthcoming)

Purpose:  This is an 8 week intense strategy project that will kick off in early August and will include a robust community engagement component that will consist of surveys, focus groups, town hall meetings and this committee will help inform the approach.

Members:  10 people (comprised of 9 clusters + 1 charter)

Application Process

Individuals who are interested in serving on a committee should send a brief email directly to APS advising them of their interest.

  • Deadline date:  5:00 p.m., Friday, August 14th
  • Email:  offcomm1@atlanta.k12.ga.us and include the following information:
    • Name
    • School/Cluster with which you are affiliated and how (parent, LSC member, PTA member, etc.)
